February 2012 Top Beer & Pub Tweets

Start of a new month can mean only one thing: a compilation of February's Top Beer & Pub related content on Twitter:
Aye reminds me of that Pogues line about lend me £10 & I'll buy you a drink. Rich vein of tweeting from Chris in Sweden, well worth checking out his timeline if you dont already follow.

16) Ken has been travelling too, albeit less glamorously
@rhodeshannah
Just seen some bloke buy a pint of 's Veto Ale at stansted using a €5 note.

Tweeted like a true Buddie

14)
: Neva mind drinking the , smells like you could roll it up and smoke it!!! :)”
Ah yes, so many of us have been struck by the link hophead/dopehead. OK this next one isn't strictly beer but leads on from above and sort of struck me as a classic tweet expressing succinctly something I'd always knew to be true without ever getting round to putting it into words

13)
Odd that potheads call their smokes "blunts," since it takes them forever to get to the point when they're talking.
No problem getting straight to the point no problem for this next regular on TB&PT

Aldi are selling Innis and Gunn. Perfect brand positioning.
Saucer of milk for table 3 I think

And with that the whole Craft/Keg/Cask kerfuffle was put to bed. At last.
10)
Three intransitive verbs walk into a bar. They sit. They drink. They leave. (via )
When you saw this one yourself you just knew I'd include it here, so didnt want to disappoint

Overheard on today's tour: "We brew on Saturdays. I guess you could call us seventh-day fermentists."
The thinking man's Punsters

Short & snappy but with an underlying, sombre element of truth. Just the way we like them here

January 2012 Top beer and Pub tweets

With an Oscar nomination for the actor responsible for bringing him to the big screen here is LeCarre's famous character's take on recent Government doublethink regarding healthy drinking

13)
George Smiley
Control wants Ricki to have two drink-free nights, as per MPs' recommendations. I suggested the start of the flat season & cup final day.

12)
Jocky Scott
Ola Dubh is teckle bevvy.
And you would know Jocky, you would know. This account started off as a parody of Dundee fitba legend, with jetpacks and cocaine references aplenty. But now I'm beginning to have my doubts.

11)
rhodeshannah
Just ordered a beer . The bar staff have informed me it'll be at least three weeks.
Will it be afternoon or evening? Just that I'm due to get served at the Counting House that day & I don't want to miss out.

10)
The Beehive Inn
Question of the Day: "Is that Murrayfield behind the pub?" "No, that would be Edinburgh Castle, sir."
All delivered in that superior tone only Edinburgh barstaff with experience of tourists going back generations can muster

9)
PSBH
Hey guys from now on starting Friday 20th we opening at 2pm for your drinking pleasure, so bunk off work and join us for pint
Now this is exactly to sort of get-up-and-go attitude that will see us grow the economy out of these troubled economic times

8)
Sam Pyne
A parasite walks into a bar. Barman says 'We don't serve parasites in here' Parasite says, 'well, you're not a very good host'

7) ecorno™
I want to go on one of those benders where you grow a full beard before you even notice.
Yep, that's how I get through those difficult first few weeks of growing my winter beard

6)
The Beehive Inn
Make use of the wind! Put on roller skates, set your phone's satnav to "Beehive Inn" and spread your Batman cape! You'll be here in no time
Regullar Heather the Weather, aint ya?

5)
Neil Scotney
"Who's the manager here", "Well it's the guy in the penguin tshirt holding a stoat". Still funny.
Hey, if it gets you through the day...

4)
Dice Productions
Quitting smoking was the best decision ever. I can finally appreciate the taste of my breakfast vodka.

3)
Gary Sutherland
Loch Fyne is a mighty fine brewery. Avalanche, Hurricane Jack... waiting for them to produce a beer called Typhoon Stout.
Aye, that would be just Sublime

2)
Twips2
LEARN a lesson from toast. Before going out drinking, why not butter the back of your head so that you don't fall on your face?
Chrib nearly made the top spot but January has seen some rich pickings for us Twagiarists...

1)
thethreesheets
According to the kids chatting behind me IPA stands for Increased Percentage Ale.
In my day we used to laugh at people asking for a pint of "eighty slash dash", but this is funny too.

Quick Cocktail from the only openly Golfing author I follow to get us started this month.

Whisky and Tizer. A Maltizer
12)

Excellent quote from Brewpooch – "We hate the UK beer culture" ... well fuck you then.
Looks like the Christmas Armistice is over, and that Rob didn't get picked for the traditional game of football played between the front lines. Again.

11)
Bar
One of the worst days of weather in recent memory yet one of our regular's comes strolling in his usual T-shirt no jacket.
Didn't know @thethreesheets even drank up there
10)
chris fletcher
I turned down free beer at work today cos I had to look after the kid for half an hour. This sort of thing wins Peter Andre awards
9) Couple of promising entries from a newcomer to Top Beer & Pub tweets
Scotched Rinker
Sam Adams is the main reason I know what season it is.
/
Occupy my bosses Liquor cabinet!
Hit 'em where it hurts
8)
Sir Mervyn King
Asked by the missus to stick to 2% beer tonight. On my 7th can of the 5.2% lager. I'll send a letter of explanation when I stop sicking up.
OK, faintly reminiscent of an old Rikki Fulton gag but still worth an outing on Hogmanay.

7)
The Beehive Inn
Excuse of the decade: "Sorry, I'm late, but I got toothpaste in my hair." No hashtag would do this justice, so I wont even try...

6)
Adam Shafi
Do you have the new Houston space beer ?
As a boy Adam dreamed of walking on the moon, now he makes do walking from pub to pub ticking off @HoustonBrewCo 's space beers

5) Also from Dundee, but with different priorities

Jocky Scott
Plate o stovies and a tin of Tartan Spesh then time tae get ill.

We just put in an order for some truly staggering UK craft beer arriving mid January. Keep watching, prepare for trouser wetting excitement
Adding a welcome new dimension to Glasgow drinking, but perhaps not the excitement all of us crave

1)
Steve Death
I'm in a Wetherspoon's. It's like the second circle of hell but the beer's cheaper.
By an uncanny coincidence this was Tim Martin's pitch to the venture capitalists when raising start up stake all those years ago...

J P
Would like fans to know that although we got stuffed yesterday,I upheld our honor by drinking half of pompey under the table
Yeah, that always cheers me up after a bad loss, in the middle of a crap season, away from home,...

Edinburgh Pub
Mike Tindall - that was an expensive trip to the pub.

11)
Darren Randolph

Disappointed that after a day no one has made the WholePaypacket "joke" about the new Whole Food Market in the Mearns.
Brown Paypackets? With those perforated holes? in the Mearns? You're the one that is having a laugh

6)
BeerCast Rich
By some coincidence I'm drinking a Rumble as well at the moment. It tastes like fabric softener
Tasting note of the month

5)
robsterowski
What kind of fabric softener do you use? I must get some
Rob sensing a bandwagon there

4)
HairyMonster AleselA
We use those sheets that you put in the rumble dryer. Badum-tish!! I'll be here all week. Thank you.
Your name is Noel Edmonds. Thank you, and goodnight

3)
Colin M
Overheard at : "You're sitting there like some kind of Russian oligarch". You get a better class of insult in the west end

2)
Very Short Story
After a night of drinking in the bar, I woke up in a graveyard, the only place where women didn't walk away from me when I talked to them.
Quality contribution from longtime favourite

1)
Fullsteam Brewery
When someone suggests there are more calories in dark beer, politely ask them if burnt toast has more calories than lightly-toasted bread.
Clever, but the Socratic technique is doomed to failure when  deployed against beer bores
